NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Sophomore Samantha Maxwell was named the BIG EAST Conference’s Athlete of the Week for women’s swimming and diving, the league announced Wednesday. The award came on the heels of being named the Division I Women’s National College Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com one day earlier.
The Chandler, Ariz., native earned the same award from the BIG EAST earlier this season on Jan. 9.
Maxwell claimed three individual wins at Louisville on Jan. 17 while helping Notre Dame win eight of the 16 events. She set three pool records at Louisville’s Ralph Wright Natatorium and reached an NCAA B-cut in two of her winning efforts (100 and 200 Breast). The sophomore finished the 100 Breast (1:02.16) in first place and followed with another win in the 200 Breast (2:15.04). Maxwell’s third first-place effort came in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:43.04.
