Bertrand and Cole Earn All-ACC Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Notre Dame baseball graduate students John Michael Bertrand and Ryan Cole were both named to All-ACC teams, the conference announced Monday morning. Bertrand earned first team honors for the second-consecutive season while Cole was named to the third team, his first all-conference honor of his career.

Bertrand has been named to the first team All-ACC in each of his two seasons with the Irish after transferring from Furman. He is the first Irish player to earn first team honors twice in the ACC since the Irish joined the league in 2014. He is the first Irish pitcher to tally back-to-back first team all-conference honors since 1999-2001 when Aaron Heilman did it in three-straight seasons in the BIG EAST.

Bertrand has been the Irish ace and leads the pitching staff in seven wins, 82.1 innings pitched, 86 strikeouts and a 2.62 ERA. He has pitched 6.0 innings or longer in nine of his 13 starts this season and allowed three earned runs or less in 10 of his starts. He set a career high with 12 strikeouts in the 2-0 win in extras over No. 5 Florida State in April. It was the first time in Seminole program history that they were shut out in an extra inning game.

Cole has started all 46 games this season and has been one of the most productive bats for the Irish this season. He leads the team with 18 stolen bases and ranks second with nine home runs and second with 53 hits. The 18 steals rank fourth overall in the ACC and are a career-best mark for Cole. He hit the game-winning two-run home run in the 12 inning in the 2-0 win over No. 5 Florida State and tallied his first career multi-home run game against #9 Miami last week.

Bertrand, Cole and the Irish will be back on the diamond Thursday afternoon as they begin pool play of the 2022 ACC Championship in Charlotte. They open up with the No. 9 seed Florida State from Truist Field and the clash with the Seminoles will start at 3 p.m. ET and be aired on your local RSN/Bally Sports Channel.
