Ben Hansbrough Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior Ben Hansbrough (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) has earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as the Conference office handed outs its weekly awards for the first time this season. Hansbrough’s selection marked the second time in his career that he was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Hansbrough averaged 20.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists in leading the Irish to a 3-0 start and topped the 20-plus point mark in two of the first three games. In the three contests, he combined for 21-36 (.583) shooting from the field, including a 15-25 (.600) performance from three-point range.

In the season opener against Georgia Southern, he scored 20 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished off four assists in the 98-61 win as he topped the 1,000-point mark in his career. Against Liberty, Hansbrough finished with 10 points and four assists and then netted a season-high 22 points against Chicago State in addition to grabbing five rebounds and dishing off six assists.

Ashton Gibbs from Pittsburgh earned player-of-the-week honors, while Sean Kilpatrick of Cincinnati was named the league’s rookie of the week.

Joining Hansbrough on the Weekly Honor Roll were Kemba Walker of Connecticut, Chris Wright of Georgetown, Marshon Brooks of Providence and Casey Mitchell of West Virginia.
