Bavaro Tabbed Second Star

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Following a weekend sweep over the Wildcats of Northern Michigan, Notre Dame icer Drew Bavaro was named Second Star of the Week by the Big Ten, the conference announced Tuesday.

Bavaro had an assist on Friday night’s game-winning goal before extending his point-streak to four games Sunday night with a goal in the final minutes.

With the game seemingly headed to overtime late in the third period Sunday, knotted 3-3 with the Wildcats, the blueliner fired a shot from the point into the net to snap the stalemate and propel his team to victory. The goal, his first with the Irish, came at 17:42 of the third period Sunday.

The junior from Bradenton, Fla., ranks second on the team in points thus far (five, 1-4-5), and has tallied at least one point in each of his first four games in 2022-23. His five points on the season is also tied for most among Big Ten defenders.

The weekly honors are Bavaro’s first of his career and the first for ND this season.

The Irish continue their homestand this Friday with the first of a home-and-home series with Western Michigan. Puck drop for Friday night is set for 7:05 p.m. inside the Compton Family Ice Arena.
