Baseball Hosts Ontario Blue Jays In Fall Exhibition

Sept. 29, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame baseball team will host the Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition contest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at Frank Eck Stadium. The exhibition game is open to the public and admission is free.

The Blue Jays are based in Ontario, Canada, and are a high-level summer baseball program that competes in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO). The Blue Jays will play over 30 games against collegiate teams this fall, including contests against the likes of Central Michigan, Indiana State, Kent State, Virginia, Clemson and Florida State.

“We are excited to host Ontario for an exhibition game Friday night,” first-year Irish head coach Mik Aoki said. “It not only gives the coaching staff a tremendous opportunity to evaluate our players in a game setting as opposed to practice, but it also gives the players a chance to compete against someone other than themselves.”

The Irish have already played one exhibition game this fall. Notre Dame registered a 5-2 victory over Michigan State in 10 innings on Sept. 17. The Irish blanked the Blue Jays, 6-0, last fall.

Notre Dame’s annual Blue-Gold Fall World Series opens on Oct. 7 and closes on Oct. 9. All games are free and open to the public. The three-game intrasquad series will be played out to its completion, weather permitting, regardless of outcomes.
