AUSTIN and SAN MARCOS, Texas — The first school record of the outdoor track & field season fell on Saturday at the Texas Relays as the University of Notre Dame senior standout Jade Barber smashed her own two-year-old record in the 100-meter hurdles.

Barber finished second in the event with a time of 12.81, besting the previous mark of 12.93 she set in 2013. She was just 0.06 seconds off first place, which went to Baylor’s Tiffani McReynolds.

Elsewhere, Barber also helped the women’s 4×100-meter relay team, including Kaila Barber, Parker English and Margaret Bamgbose to a eighth-place finish in 45.31 in the finals. The 4×200-meter grouping, consisting of English, Payton Miller, Amber Lalla and Bamgbose, finished in fourth place with a time of 1:36.31.

In the invitational section of the 4×400-meter relay, Lalla, Miller, Jordan Shead and Bamgbose placed seventh (3:40.03).

On the men’s side, the 4×200-meter team of Alex Groesch, Harvey Smith, Eric Ways and Chris Giesting matched their female counterparts in finishing fourth in a time of 1:24.77. The same group finished eighth in the 4×400-meter relay finals in 3:12.47.

A short drive away at the Bobcat Invitational, Greg Bombara finished second in the javelin throw (59.61), while Keith Mesidor finished third in the long jump (7.27 meters). For the women, Emily Carson placed sixth in the long jump (5.60 meters).

The Irish will return to action next next Friday and Saturday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California. To keep up with Irish track & field, follow @NDXCTF on Twitter and like Notre Dame Cross Country/Track & Field on Facebook.
