Auguste Signs With Los Angeles Lakers

June 25, 2016

University of Notre Dame men’s basketball senior forward Zach Auguste, who graduated in May of 2016, has signed an agreement to play with the Los Angeles Lakers summer league team. Auguste will join former teammates Demetrius Jackson (second round, 45th overall selection to the Boston Celtics in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday, June 23), Jerian Grant (Chicago Bulls) and Pat Connaughton (Portland Trailblazers) as Irish players on an NBA roster this summer.

Auguste completed his Notre Dame career playing some of the most consistent basketball of any big man in college basketball. He posted 22 double-doubles in 2015-16 while earning third-team all-ACC honors. Auguste led the ACC in rebounding with a 10.7 average, becoming the first Notre Dame player to lead a conference in rebounding since Luke Harangody in the BIG EAST (2008-09).

Auguste also put himself in elite company in the Irish record books, as he is just the third player in Notre Dame history to shoot over .560 (.567) from the floor in a career and grab over 800 (822) rebounds. LaPhonso Ellis (1988-92) and Adrian Dantley (1974-76) were the other two players to accomplish that feat – and both enjoyed a long and memorable career in the NBA.

In the Notre Dame record books, Auguste finished seventh in field goal percentage (.567), 13th in rebounding (822), 11th in blocked shots (87) and tied for eighth in games played (128).
