Missy Conboy and Bernard Muir have been promoted to deputy athletics directors, John Heisler and Bill Scholl have been promoted to senior associate athletics directors and Eugene “Boo” Corrigan, Jr., and Mike Karwoski have been named associate athletics directors, as part of an athletic staff realignment announced today by University of Notre Dame athletics director Kevin White.

The promotions and staff additions address the departures last fall of Jim Phillips, who became athletics director at Northern Illinois University, and Sandy Barbour, who became athletics director at the University of California-Berkeley.

As deputy athletics director for business and legal affairs, Conboy continues to direct business operations, human resources and legal issues for Notre Dame athletics. She handles the University’s corporate relationship with adidas and also serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees’ Athletic Affairs Committee. In addition, she has administrative oversight of the volleyball, hockey, women’s tennis and rowing programs.

A 1982 Notre Dame graduate, Conboy joined the NCAA staff as an enforcement representative following her graduation from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1985. She came to Notre Dame as an assistant athletics director in 1987, served five years in that role, 11 years as associate athletics director and two more as senior associate athletics director. She previously supervised Notre Dame’s compliance program and has served on a variety of NCAA and BIG EAST Conference committees.

As deputy athletics director for administration and facilities, Muir is now responsible for the facilities master plan for athletics while also handling a variety of general internal administrative responsibilities. He continues to oversee the RecSports program, game management and summer camps — and he also is the primary liaison to the Faculty Board on Athletics. Muir also handles both the athletic training and strength and conditioning areas within athletics – and he has administrative oversight for football (combined with White), men’s and women’s swimming, women’s soccer, softball, men’s tennis and men’s and women’s fencing.

Muir came to Notre Dame in 2000 as associate athletics director for student-athlete development and was in his second year as senior associate athletics director. In that role he was responsible for Notre Dame’s student development program as well as the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. He previously was an eight-year NCAA staff member as director of the Division I NCA Men’s Basketball Championship. He also worked in athletic administration at Auburn, Butler and Brown. Muir is a 1990 Brown graduate who received his master’s degree in sports administration and facility management from Ohio University in 1992.

As senior associate athletics director for media and broadcast relations, Heisler continues to oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of the sports information operation, as well as concentrating on media relations initiatives, broadcast property relationships and football scheduling details. He also serves as the departments liaison to the Office of Information Technology, collaborates with Scott Correira on media relationships under the Notre Dame Sports Properties umbrella, continues to work with the men’s lacrosse program and assists with external events such as banquets, luncheons and pep rallies.

A member of the Notre Dame athletic administration since 1978, Heisler began as an assistant sports information director and served as sports information director from 1988 through 2003. Editor of 25 media guides and programs judged best in the nation, he was named assistant athletics director in 1995 and associate athletics director in 2001. Author of three books on Notre Dame football, he’s a 1976 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Scholl now serves as senior associate athletics director for external affairs, overseeing the development function of athletics. In addition, he oversees the ticketing operation and joins with White in overseeing the men’s basketball program, as well as working with men’s soccer and women’s golf.

After five years in advertising with Juhl Advertising in Mishawaka, Ind., Scholl handled financial development for the 1987 International Summer Special Olympic Games held in South Bend and then spent a year in that same role at Logan Center in South Bend. A 1979 Notre Dame graduate, he originally joined the athletics department as promotions manager, then served seven years as assistant athletics director for marketing. He spent the last three years as associate athletics director for marketing and as executive director of the Notre Dame National Monogram Club.

Hired as associate athletics director for corporate relations and marketing, Corrigan will work with all of the athletic corporate partners and Team Notre Dame partners as well as combining with Correira to oversee the corporate aspect of the NDSP programs. In addition to having administrative responsibilities with the baseball program, Corrigan also oversees the promotions area within the department.

Corrigan spent the last two and a half years as associate athletic director for marketing at the United States Navy Academy. He previously spent a year as a partner in Corrigan Sports Enterprises, an entrepreneurial sports marketing company, in the Baltimore area – and also worked two years as an equity partner in mrgoodbucks.com, an e-commerce program that involved creation of affinity business relationships.

Corrigan spent two years as vice president of EMCEE Sports, a Baltimore-based sports marketing company with a focus on professional golf, from 1997 through ’99. In that role, he was responsible for a $2.5 million operating budget for the State Farm Senior Classic. He worked for Host Communications for two years, helping create relationships with various college and university athletic departments – and he served as assistant director of marketing at Florida State from 1992 through ’95. Youngest son of former Notre Dame athletic director Gene Corrigan, he is a 1990 University of Notre Dame graduate with a degree in economics.

Promoted to associate athletics director for compliance and student-athlete development, Karwoski also will combine with White to administer the women’s basketball program and will work with men’s and women’s cross country and track and field, women’s lacrosse, men’s golf and cheerleading.

Karwoski has spent the last five years at Notre Dame as assistant athletics director in the area of compliance. He previously spent five years as director of compliance, one as assistant director of compliance and two as an intern in that department. He also has served as administrator of the Irish men’s golf program and has been a member of BIG EAST Conference committees on men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s soccer.

A 1990 Central Connecticut State graduate, Karwoski earned a master’s degree from Springfield College (Mass.) while serving as a graduate assistant soccer coach and athletic administrative assistant in 1991-92. He also spent a year working with the Connecticut General Assembly.
