Ashley Barlow Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Dec. 17, 2007

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame sophomore guard Ashley Barlow (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) has been named to the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. It’s the first weekly league honor of Barlow’s two-year career, and she also becomes the first Irish player to be tabbed for conference recognition this season. What’s more, Barlow is the first Notre Dame women’s cager to earn a place on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll since current senior guard Charel Allen (Monessen, Pa./Monessen) collected the last of her four citations on Feb. 19, 2007.

In her team’s lone game last week before the final exam break, Barlow scored a game-high 19 points (15 in the first half) as Notre Dame won its seventh consecutive game with a 94-56 victory over Valparaiso at the Joyce Center. The 5-9 guard connected on 8-of-12 shots from the floor (3-of-4 from three-point range) while adding five rebounds and two steals in just 22 minutes of action.

For the season, Barlow ranks second on the team (and 19th in the BIG EAST) in scoring at 13.7 points per game, while also standing among the league leaders in steals (ninth – 2.1 spg.) and three-point percentage (13th – .419). In addition, she leads the conference and ranks 14th in the nation in free throw percentage, hitting at a .914 clip (32-of-35) from the line this season.

The 17th-ranked Irish (9-1) will return from the final exam break Friday night, visiting Barlow’s hometown of Indianapolis for a 7 p.m. (ET) contest at IUPUI. It will be the lone game in a 17-day period for Notre Dame, which will break for the Christmas holiday before returning to the hardwood Dec. 29 to face Saint Francis (Pa.) in a 2 p.m. (ET) game at the Joyce Center. Tickets for that matchup, and all Irish women’s basketball games, may still be purchased by contacting the Notre Dame Athletics Ticket Office (574-631-7356), ordering on-line by clicking here or stopping by the Joyce Center Gate 10 ticket windows on game day.
