NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame sophomore Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill.) has been selected as Golfweek’s Women’s National Player of the Week for the week of March 25-31, the magazine announced Monday afternoon.

Armstrong, who currently ranks No. 72 on Golfweek’s national rankings, achieved the merit after guiding the No. 24 Fighting Irish to a first-place finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational on the Golf Club of Briar’s Creek’s course in John’s Island, S.C., last week.

Facing inclement weather throughout the compete duration of the tournament, Armstrong led Notre Dame (317-300-289-906) past second-place Maryland (312-310-292-914) by eight strokes for the team’s first tournament title of the season in the 18-team field.

The sophomore drove through the field of the 95 competitors carding a two-day total of a one-over-par 217 (74-71-72) to secure her second-consecutive tournament crown on the year and third of her career.

Armstrong finished three strokes in front of second-place finisher No. 45 Laura Wearn from Furman (77-76-67-220) and owned a four-stroke margin over Coastal Carolina’s No. 90 Brittany Henderson, who finished third (71-74-76-221) in the tournament.

Within in the field, Armstrong defeated seven top-100 opponents and four top-50 foes.

Prior to the announcement, Armstrong was additionally mentioned in Golfweek’s Midweek Report on March 27th and the publication’s main feature story on March 26th.

The Irish will be in action again this weekend at the DAC/SMU Invitational at the Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, April 5-7.
