SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – The Irish closed out their fall schedule on a high note, as the team finished tied for second at the Alamo Invitational and senior Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) earned co-medalist honors after firing a two-under par 70 in the only round of play at the Briggs Ranch Country Club. Play was originally scheduled to get underway on Monday, October 26 but the first and second rounds were cancelled due to heavy rains, making Tuesday the only day of play.

The win marked the second of Brohy’s Irish career, with her other triumph coming at the 2008 BIG EAST tournament. Her two-under par 70 was aided by birdies on the 16th, 3rd, eighth and ninth holes (after teeing off from the 11th). The 70 tied for her second lowest round with the Irish and she has now finished in the top-20 in Notre Dame’s last four tournaments.

The Notre Dame trio of sophomore Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) and juniors Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y.) and So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) tied for 13th by carding two-over par 74’s. Huffer got off to a tough start, as she was four-over par after eight holes of play, but she birdied the 18th (after starting on hole 10) and sixth holes while recording pars on the rest of the front nine to record her fifth top-15 finish in as many starts for the Irish this fall.

Park also had a tough back nine (after starting on hole 12), but she carded four birdies and five pars on the front nine to finish at two-over par. The 74 tied for her second best round of the fall season. Conway recorded her best finish of the season by playing a steady round of golf included a birdie on the third hole, 14 pars and three bogeys. The 74 tied for her lowest round of the fall season.

Senior co-captain Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) carded a four-over par 76 to tie for 22nd. Though her 76 did not count towards the team score, it did ensure that Notre Dame was the only team at the tournament with five players recording scores of four-over par or better. She had birdies on the 10th, 13th and 15th holes on her way to recording her best finish of the fall season.

The Alamo Invitational marked the conclusion of Notre Dame’s fall schedule. The spring season opens for the Irish on February 22, 2010 at the Central District Invitational, which will be played at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parish, Fla.
