Andrews Falls In First Round Of NCAA Singles Championship

ATHENS, Ga. – Notre Dame men’s tennis player Greg Andrews saw his splendid sophomore campaign come to an end on Wednesday morning at McWorter Courts on the campus of the University of Georgia, as the Richland, Mich., native lost in straight sets to Mississippi’s Jonas Lutjen, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship.

The No. 45 Lutjen won the last two points in set one against No. 54 Andrews to claim the narrow 7-5 win. In set two Lutjen held serve (6-3) to win the match.

With the loss, Andrews ends the year at 26-5 in singles action. The BIG EAST Player of the Year was the highest ranked player in the league and won three Player of the Week scrolls throughout the year.

Teammates Niall Fitzgerald and Casey Watt get started tomorrow at the NCAA Doubles Championship when they battle No. 4 Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher of Stanford.
