Andreach, Castedo, Freeman and Pozder Compete at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. –  Four from the University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team went down to Cary, North Carolina to compete in the ITA All-American Championships last weekend. Julia Andreach, Maria Olivia Castedo, Page Freeman and Bojana Pozder each competed in the event. Andreach, Freeman and Pozder competed in the singles event, while Castedo teamed with Freeman in the doubles event.

In the main doubles draw, Freeman and Castedo teamed up to take on Ting-Pei Chang and Camilla Bossi from West Virginia. The Irish pair took the first match with a 6-2, 7-5 score to advance to face Elizabeth Scotty and Abigail Forbes of North Carolina. The Irish fell to the Tar Heel tandem, 6-4, 6-3.

Pozder began her singles competition against Katie Codd of Duke, earning a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory. The freshman knocked off another ACC opponent her next time out, taking care of Wake Forest’s Nevena Carton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 before falling to Emma Staker of Oklahoma, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3.

Andreach picked up a pair of wins in her effort during the week. She started the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maria Orenshkina of Wyoming. She followed that with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marlee Zein of Texas. Andeach’s run came to an end against North Carolina’s Abigail Forbes, falling 6-2, 6-1.

Freeman came out on the short end of a 6-2, 6-1 decision against South Carolina’s Ayana Akli.
