Nov. 2, 2010

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame freshman left wing Anders Lee (Edina, Minn.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s rookie of the month for October.

In the first seven games of his Notre Dame career, Lee leads the Irish in goals with six and is second on the team in scoring with eight points. His eight points tie him for seventh in the CCHA while his six goals rank him third in goal scoring. Among CCHA freshmen, Lee leads in points and goals this season.

On the national level, Lee’s six goals tie him for sixth among all Division I players while his eight points tie him for seventh among all Division I rookies for the 2010-11 campaign.

The 6-3, 218-pound left wing got his month and Notre Dame career off to a fast start when he scored in his first career start and notched a hat trick in his first career game against Holy Cross in the 6-3 opening-game win at the Warrior Ice Breaker Tournament in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 8. He added an assist in the 5-4 loss in the tournament championship game versus Boston University on Oct. 10 for a four-point weekend in his first two games. For his fine first weekend, Lee was named the CCHA rookie of the week for the week ending Oct. 10.

A product of the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers where he was a first team USHL all-star and the league’s rookie of the year in 2009-10, Lee has scored in five of his first seven games this season. He had a goal and an assist in Notre Dame’s 4-2 win over Lake Superior State on Oct. 15 and added goals in back-to-back games against Western Michigan on Oct. 29-30. His goal at 14:55 of the third period on Oct. 29 on the power play proved to be the game winner in a 3-2 victory over the Broncos. The following night, he opened the scoring at 1:14 of the first period in a game that ended in a 2-2 overtime tie with the Irish getting the win in the shootout.

Selected in the sixth round, 152nd overall by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Lee has helped the Irish to a 5-1-1 overall record and a 3-0-1-1 record in the CCHA, good for 11 points and a share of first place in the CCHA standings with Miami.

Lee and his 11th-ranked Notre Dame teammates return to action this weekend, Nov. 5-6, when the Irish travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for a pair of CCHA games with the Bowling Green Falcons.
