FRANKLIN, Ind. – One of the best 54-hole tournament scores in Notre Dame men’s golf history-led by a record six-under showing from senior Alex Kent-proved to be not enough, as the Irish finished 12th out of 13 teams following Tuesday’s final round of action at the annual Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate.

Kent closed with an even-par 72 at the 6,859-yard Legends of Indiana Golf Course, finishing tied for fourth in the 78-payer field-three strokes back of medalist Aldo Jordan from team champion Indiana University. Kent’s six-under 210 total (he shot 67-71 in Monday’s rounds) represents the first time that a Notre Dame golfer has finished better than four-under in an intercollegiate tournament while ranking as the second-best raw score (trailing Jeff Connell’s four-under 209 at the Marshall Invitational in the spring of 1998).

Notre Dame fashioned a final-round 292 in the play-six, count-four format to finish with an 873 total (+9), ranking as the fourth-best 54-hole score in team history (four shy of the record) and the third-best in relation to par (five shy of the top mark). The Irish finished just one stroke behind Cincinnati, three back of Marquette and 10 shots out of a top-five finish.

Senior Pat Schaffler capped an impressive showing with a final-round 72 (for a 220) total while sophomore Brandon Lunke (73-220) and junior Steve Ratay (74-224) also counted to the team score. Freshman Gavin Ferlic (76-225) and senior Adam Anderson (74-228) rounded out the Irish contingent.
