NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior midfielder Andie Aldave and senior goaltender Bridget Deehan were both named First Team Preseason All-American by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine on Monday morning (Dec. 21).
Later on Monday, Deehan was also tabbed as the magazine’s Preseason Goaltender of the Year.
Both Aldave and Deehan were named Inside Lacrosse First Team All-Americans after a shortened 2020 campaign due to CoVID-19. Deehan was also IL’s Breakthrough Player of the Year in 2020.
A junior captain in 2020, Aldave finished second on the team with 17 goals and tied for second with 23 points in seven games. On February 16, 2020 against Central Michigan, Aldave broke Barbara Sullivan’s program record for career draw controls and finished her junior year with 285 career draw controls. The Baltimore, Maryland, native closed the season with five straight multi-goal efforts, including four-goal games against Central Michigan, Ohio State and Duke. She was named to the Tewaaraton Watch list for the second straight season.
Deehan closed the 2020 season ranked fifth in the country with a save percentage of .547 and seventh in the nation with a goals-against average of 7.78. The Milton, Georgia, native notched a career-high 12 saves against #3 Northwestern and #22 Duke, and earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors after Notre Dame’s 17-15 triumph in Evanston on February 14, 2020. Deehan was part of an Irish defensive unit that ranked second in the country last season with a mark of 7.29 goals allowed per game.
