Albrecht To Play In Upcoming U.S. Women's Amateur

NOTRE DAME, Ind. University of Notre Dame golfer Emma Albrecht (Ormond Beach, Florida) will be one of 156 female amateur golfers to compete in the United States Golf Association’s 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur golf championship, which will be held August 7-13 at the San Diego Country Club (par-72) in Chula Vista, California.

Albrecht qualified for the U.S. Amateur after shooting two-over-par 74 at the Bridges of Poplar Country Club in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, on June 29. Albrecht came out on top after a one-hole playoff against three other golfers to secure the last of six qualifying spots.

The 2017 U.S. Amateur has a field of 128 players in addition to 28 exempt golfers all coming from various sectional qualifying tournaments across the country. The tournament opens with two rounds of stroke play on August 7-8. At the conclusion of the first 36 holes, the top 64 players will advance to the match play portion of the tournament. The final two competitors will face off for 36 holes in the championship match on August 13th.

Fox Sports (FS1) will provide television coverage, beginning on August 9 (starting with Round of 64 matches), while live streaming and live scoring will be available via usga.org.

Albrecht had an outstanding sophomore year at Notre Dame, where she played in 11 tournaments and posted the second-lowest single-season stroke average (73.56) in program history. Albrecht qualified for the NCAA Columbus Regional as an individual entrant. On the season, she posted one top-10 finish, three top-20 finishes, and two top-25 finishes.
