Albrecht And Heck Named To ACC All-Academic Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame women’s golfers Emma Albrecht and Abby Heck were named to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Team the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Wednesday (June 19).

Albrecht and Duke’s Virginia Elena Carta had the added distinction of earning the honor for a fourth consecutive season.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

Albrecht, who graduated in May as a science-business major, wrapped up her stellar Fighting Irish career at the 2019 NCAA East Lansing Regional as she participated in NCAA play for a fourth consecutive season (twice as an individual). Albrecht posted a team-best 73.07 season stroke average over 29 total rounds. She fired 13 rounds at par or better, including eight such rounds under par (three rounds in the 60s). She recorded seven top-25 finishes over her first nine starts this season, which included a tie for fourth place at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational (70-71-72=213) and a share of second place at the Westbrook Invitational (70-68-70=208). She also carded seven straight rounds at par or better spanning from the third round of the Minnesota Invitational through the third round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational last fall.

Albrecht will begin medical school this summer and boasts the program’s top career stroke average with a 73.38 mark. She set the single-season stroke average in 2017-18 with a 72.31 mark. She also ranks second in program history for career percentage of rounds counted (.962) and tied the single-season percentage of rounds counted mark in 2017-18 with a 29-for-29 showing (1.000) and in 2018-19 with a 26-for-26 (1.000) effort. Over her four seasons, posted four of the top-10 stroke averages in program history.For her career, finished with nine Top-10 finishes and has 24 Top-20 showings.

Heck, a mathematics and Spanish double major, finished her sophomore season this past year, with a 74.19 stroke average (third-lowest on the team). She was named to the Dean’s List following the 2019 spring semester. Starting all nine tournaments, Heck ranked second on the team with six rounds under par (team-high four rounds in the 60’s) and added two rounds at even par. She was the only Notre Dame player in 2018-19 to fire multiple rounds in the 60’s at the same tournament (Schooner Fall Classic, Moon Golf Invitational).

This past season, Heck earned a career-best runner-up finish to lead Notre Dame at the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 18-19), carding rounds of 68-70-69=207 (-9). She tied for 26th place at the ACC Championship (April 18-20), carding a final tournament score of 225 (76-71-78).
