adidas Donates $5,000 For Coaches vs. Cancer Program

Feb. 3, 2005

Notre Dame, Ind. – In support of the Coaches vs. Cancer Program, Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey and his staff, will be wearing sneakers on the sidelines when the Irish travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. to take on BIG EAST rival Syracuse in a conference showdown at 9:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.

This Saturday (February 5) has been designated Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Day. As a show of support and solidarity for the fight against cancer, college basketball coaches from all over the country will be wearing sneakers on the sidelines. In addition to the Irish staff, Jim Boeheim and his coaching staff also will be wearing sneakers during the nationally-televised contest.

adidas, a longtime partner of the Irish athletic program, has made a generous donation of $5,000 for the CVC program at Notre Dame that was established by Mike and his wife, Tish, when they came to South Bend five years ago. That program has helped raise more the $420,000 for the Michiana community’s fight against cancer. A dedicated supporter of the program, Brey was the recipient of the 2003 CVC Champion Award, given annually by the CVC National Council and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). In addition, he has served as a member of the CVC National Council for the past two years.

The CVC program unites the American Cancer Society and the NABC in the fight against cancer. Since its inception in 1993, the program has raised more than $22 million dollars to benefit the efforts in cancer research, advocacy, education and patient services.
