PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Notre Dame running back Josh Adams, the leading rusher for the fifth-ranked Irish football team, was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award on Monday, Oct. 30, by the Maxwell Football Club.

Adams has established himself as a candidate for the Maxwell, as well as Heisman Trophy and Doak Walker Award, by emerging as one of the best running backs in the country. He has eclipsed 100 rushing yards in six of eight games this season, going for over 200 yards in a pair of contests and ranking among the nation’s leaders in several categories.

Most recently, he ran for 202 yards and a TD against No. 14 NC State, leading the 7-1 Irish to a 35-14 victory. The Wolfpack entered the game with the nation’s sixth-ranked rushing defense and had not allowed a 100-yard rusher all season.

The effort pushed him over 1,000 yards for the season faster than any player in Notre Dame history (by carries) and made him one of 10 players in FBS to hit the 1,000-yard mark by the end of October. Among those 10 players, Adams has the fewest carries. He has ripped off a run of at least 70 yards in each of the last four games, the only player in the country to do so since at least 1996.
