The Notre Dame baseball team will play in its second ACC Baseball Championship this week in Louisville, Kentucky. The Irish are set to tangle with top-seeded Louisville and eight-seed Florida State as part of Pool A. The winner of each of the four pools moves on to semifinal action on Saturday, May 27.

Ballgames at Louisville Slugger Field in downtown Louisville begin on Tuesday, May 23. The Irish will wait until Wednesday, May 24, to take the diamond for an 11 a.m. showdown with Florida State. Notre Dame will then conclude pool play against Louisville on Thursday, May 25, at 7 p.m.

Should the Irish advance, semifinals are set for Saturday at 1 and 5 p.m., with the title game on Sunday, May 28 at Noon.

All pool play games can be seen on ACC Network Extra (subject to blackout). For more information or to purchase tickets, visit TheACC.com.

Irish vs. Florida State

Notre Dame hosted Florida State for a three-game series at Frank Eck Stadium this season, March 24-25. The Seminoles swept the series, winning two games on Friday by scores of 8-2 and 8-3 (13 innings), while winning the series finale on Saturday, 5-1.

The teams have not met in the ACC tournament before, but have played NCAA postseason action against each other. Notre Dame owns a 3-2 edge in those games. The teams split a pair of games at the 1993 East Regional in Tallahassee, Florida, while Notre Dame won two-of-three at the 2002 Tallahassee Super Regional, knocking off the nation’s top seed to advance to the College World Series.

Irish vs. Louisville

Like Florida State, Louisville swept a three-game set from the Irish at Frank Eck Stadium this year. The Cardinals won by scores of 2-0, 5-1, and 9-4.

The Irish and Cardinals are 2-2 all-time in postseason play, with all four meetings having come at the BIG EAST Championship. Notre Dame won the 2006 BIG EAST title by downing the Cardinals, 7-0, in the final. In 2009, the teams met three times in Clearwater, Florida, with Louisville winning a semifinal game, before the Irish won in the first final, forcing a winner-take-all championship which UofL captured, 7-6.

Irish At Conference Tournaments

It marks Notre Dame’s second trip to the ACC Baseball Championship in four seasons in the league. In 2015, the Irish went 1-2 with a win over Virginia and losses to NC State and Miami. That club went on to an NCAA regional.

Notre Dame has captured nine conference tournament championships, four in the Midwest Collegiate Conference and five consecutive BIG EAST titles (2002-06).
