#8 Irish Welcome Omaha To Close Homestand

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame hockey team will close out its eight-game homestand with a Thursday-Friday series against former CCHA foe Omaha at the Compton Family Ice Arena.

A member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), Omaha is 2-1-1 on the season, including a series split at UMass Lowell (Oct. 13-14) as well as a win and a tie against Arizona State (Oct. 20-21).

The Irish (3-2-1, 0-0-0 B1G) are coming off a series split against Sacred Heart, including a 3-1 win in game two (Oct. 20).

Notes To Know

  • Last week, Notre Dame split a series versus Sacred Heart, including a 3-1 game two win (Oct. 20). Joe Wegwerth had a pair of goals in that win, while Dawson Cook scored what proved to be the game winner.
  • In the two games against Sacred Heart, Wegwerth (three goals), Andrew Peeke (three assists) and Cook (two goals) led the offense as 13 Irish players notched points in the series. Peeke (0-3-3), Wegwerth (3-0-3), Cook (2-0-2), Colin Theisen (0-2-2) and Jack Jenkins (0-2-2) each have two-game point streaks.
  • Since giving up a third period power-play goal in game one against Denver on Oct. 13, Notre Dame’s penalty kill has gone three straight games without giving up a goal (6-for-6) and has moved up to 10th in the country at 88.9 percent.
  • Jake Evans’ eight points rank tied for ninth in the country and tied for second among Big Ten players.
  • On defense, Jordan Gross (2-5-7) is tied for fourth in the country in points scored by defensemen and ranks first in the Big Ten. Gross has 30 shots on goal, which is tied for the NCAA lead and ranks first among defensemen.

Power Play Yielding Early Returns

  • The Irish enter the week tied with the second-highest power play percentage, convert-
    ing at a 35.0 percent rate (7-for-20). Mercyhurst leads the nation (38.1%), while Lake Superior is tied with the Irish at 35%.
  • Andrew Oglevie (3), Jake Evans (1), Jordan Gross (1), Bobby Nardella (1) and Joe Wegwerth (1) have accounted for Notre Dame’s seven power-play goals. Oglevie’s three power-play goals are tied for fourth in the nation. Four of Wegwerth’s 11 career goals have come on the power play.

  • Former CCHA foes, Omaha and Notre Dame will be meeting for the 33rd and 34th times in program history and for the first set of games at the Compton Family Ice Arena.
