#7 Men's Tennis Defeats William & Mary 5-2

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team gained a 5-2 victory over #68 William & Mary Saturday night in a match played at the University of Minnesota. The Irish, ranked seventh nationally, swept the doubles matches and then won at each of the top four singles spots to record the win. Notre Dame improves to 3-1 on the season, while the Tribe fell for the first time in four matches. The Irish will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on #10 Duke at 3 p.m.

In doubles, the Irish got victories from the sixth-ranked doubles team in the country, seniors Casey Smith (Leawood, Kan.) and Javier Taborga (La Paz, Bolivia) at No. 1 doubles. Also winning were seniors James Malhame (Douglaston, N.Y.) and Ashok Raju (Morgantown, W. Va.) at No. 2 doubles and senior Aaron Talarico (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Luis Haddock-Morales (Caguas, Puerto Rico) at No. 3.

In singles, the Irish got straight-set victories in the top two spots of the lineup from Taborga and Talarico, while sophomore Matthew Scott (Paris, France) equaled the feat at No. 4. Haddock-Morales was victorious in three sets at No. 3. William & Mary’s Zack Malmgren and Alex Fish gained victories in three setters at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
