#5 Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss Of The Season As Irish Drop 3-2 Decision At Bradley

The fifth-ranked Notre Dame men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as the Irish dropped a 3-2 decision to Bradley before the largest crowd (1.403) to witness a regular-season Braves’ soccer game. Tonight’s game is the first of three road contest for Notre Dame in its next four outings.

Tim Regan scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Ryan Raschke at the 81:51 mark of the contest to give Bradley its fifth win of the season.

Notre Dame led 2-1 18:50 into the second half on junior Chad Riley’s (Houston, Texas) second goal of the season. Bradley came back to tie the game at the 77:22 mark on Ryan Glynn’s score and then tallied the game winner less than five minutes later.

The Irish, who dropped to 3-1-2 on the season, grabbed the lead 1-0 on Justin Detter’s (White Lake, Mich.) third goal of the season off assists from Kevin Richards (Warwick, Bermuda) and Rafael Garcia (Palmdale, Calif.). Bradley, which improved to 5-0-2, came back to tie the game 1:15 later following Detter’s score on Preston Good”s 35-yarder from outside of the box.

Bradley outshot the Irish 22-10 and owned a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Irish goalie Chris Sawyer (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) came up with a season-high seven saves in the contest.

The 3-2 victory by the Braves marked the second straight year that the game between the two schools has been decided by that score. Last year, the Irish prevailed by a 3-2 count on the same field against Bradley.

For the second time this season, Notre Dame experienced a lightening delay as play was halted in the 16th minute of the contest and delayed for 20 minutes. In the second game of the season against Creighton, the game was stopped for 30 minutes due to lightening.

Notre Dame returns to action on Sun., Sept. 22 when the Irish play host to BIG EAST Providence at 12:00 noon. Coach Bobby Clark’s squad will not be home again until Fri., Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. versus Pittsburgh.
