#5 Irish Set For ACC Tournament

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. —Notre Dame returned home and closed its regular season with a pair of victories over Virginia Tech (15-10) and #19 Louisville (15-11) and now gets set for the 2021 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Irish (8-5, 5-5 ACC) enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and meet fifth-seeded Duke (9-6, 4-6 ACC) in the quarterfinals this Wednesday, April 28 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

The winner of the Notre Dame/Duke contest will take on the winner of the Louisville/North Carolina quarterfinal on Friday, April 30 at noon ET. Every game of the 2021 ACC Championship is being played at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and will be televised on ACC Network. On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 seed Syracuse meets No. 7 seed Virginia Tech and No. 3 seed Boston College faces No. 6 seed Virginia. FOR STARTERS

  • Entering the ACC Tournament, Kasey Choma leads the Irish with 33 goals and 36 points
  • In Notre Dame’s final two games of the regular season last week, Choma netted a combined 11 goals in victories over Virginia Tech (6G) and Louisville (5G).
  • Choma and Bridget Deehan swept this past week’s ACC honors and were named the conference’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. It marked Deehan’s third weekly honor of the 2021 season.
  • Five different players have between 33 and 36 points in a balanced Irish offensive attack, including Kasey Choma (36), Jackie Wolak (35), Maddie Howe (34), Madison Ahern (34) and Samantha Lynch (33).
  • Bridget Deehan has hit double-digit saves in seven outings this season and currently leads the ACC with a mark of 9.69 saves per game.
  • On April 22, Deehan was named one of the 25 nominees for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award and was just one of two goaltenders nominated.

SIX IRISH EARN ACC ACCOLADES

  • Six Irish earned All-ACC accolades for the 2021 women’s lacrosse season, including a pair of First Team honorees in Bridget Deehan and Samantha Lynch (April 27).
  • In addition to Deehan and Lynch, Madison Ahern, Maddie Howe and Kasey Choma each earned Second Team honors while Keelin Schlageter was named to the ACC’s All-Freshman Team.
  • The six total honorees are the most the Irish have earned since joining the conference in 2014, and the five Irish to earn either First or Second Team All-ACC accolades match the 2015 team for the most in program history.
