#4 Irish Drop Road Contest to #5 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The fourth-ranked Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team ran into a tough challenge Thursday night and fell to the fifth-ranked Boston College Eagles 19-11 at Alumni Stadium.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first half but the Irish tried to claw back as the half came to an end. Boston College kept the momentum going into the second half and pulled away for the victory.

Andie Aldave paced the Irish with a hat trick and collected her 100th career goal in the first half. Six different Irish players scored in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tough first half for the Irish as Boston College jumped out to a 9-2 lead. Madison Ahern and Kasey Choma both tallied the goals early on for the Irish.

The Irish started to bounce back with two straight goals from Savannah Buchanan and Aldave with five minutes remaining in the half. The Irish continued the run with the next goal coming from Jackie Wolak from a tough angle.

The Eagles grabbed the final two goals of the half to take an 11-5 lead into the break.

Boston College scored the first three goals in the second half until Ahern grabbed her second goal of the game to halt the Eagle run.

The Irish and Eagles went back and forth the rest of the way as Aldave picked up her second and third of the game. Ahern collected her second goal of the game and Katie Enrietto got on the scoreboard with her first and second goal of the season.  In the final minute, Buchanan tallied her second goal of the game.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • Andie Aldave scored her 100th career goal in the first half. She is the 14th player in Notre Dame history to score 100 goals.
  • Aldave collected her first hat trick of the season, leading the Irish with three goals in the game.
  • Thursday’s contest marked Notre Dame’s fourth straight game against an opponent ranked in the top-10 of the IWLCA Poll.
