#4 Irish Drop 18-14 Decision to #2 Orange

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Kasey Choma netted four goals and Madison Ahern collected five points (3G, 2A), but the #4 Irish dropped an 18-14 decision to #2 Syracuse on Thursday night inside the Carrier Dome.

Madison Mote netted a hat trick for the Irish while Jackie Wolak finished with three points on two goals and an assist. Maddie Howe and Jessi Masinko rounded out the scoring for Notre Dame.

The Irish caused eight Orange turnovers, including a team-high three by Savannah Buchanan.

Bridget Deehan made five saves in net for the Irish.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kasey Choma netted a first-half hat trick and Madison Ahern collected three points (G, 2A) in the first 30 minutes, but the Orange earned a 10-6 advantage entering the break.

The Irish caused five Syracuse turnovers in the first half, including a trio by Savannah Buchanan.

After Syracuse opened the second half with five consecutive goals, the Irish responded with their own 5-0 run, which included three goals by Madison Mote and markers from Choma and Ahern, to get back within four at 15-11. Notre Dame kept the Orange off the board for 17:44 of play through the 5-0 run. 

Notre Dame also closed the contest on a 3-0 run with goals by Ahern, Wolak and Jessi Masinko accounting for the 18-14 final.
