Irish Travel to No. 8 Pitt and Virginia

The Irish are on a four game winning streak as they head back out on the road this weekend to take on No. 8 Pitt on Friday, Oct. 21 and face Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 23.

SETTING THE STAGE 

• Notre Dame is on a four game winning streak as they travel to face the No. 8 Pitt Panthers on Friday, Oct. 21, and the Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday, Oct. 23.

• Both games this weekend will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra. 

HISTORY VS. PITT

• This will be the 41st meeting between the Irish and the Panthers with Notre Dame leading the overall series 25-15. 

The Irish have lost the last two matchups with the most recent being last year (10.22.21), where the Irish fell in five sets at home (18-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 10-15). The last Notre Dame win was on Oct. 16, 2020 as the Irish defeated the Panthers at home in five sets (22-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 17-15). 

• The longest ND winning streak was from 1992-2002 where the Irish won 15 straight matches against the Panthers. 

HISTORY VS. VIRGINIA 

• This will be the 12th meeting between the Irish and the Cavaliers with Notre Dame leading the overall series 6-5. 

• Notre Dame has won the last five matchups against Virginia as they have been on a winning streak since 2017. The last Cavalier win against the Irish was Nov. 13, 2016 in Purcell Pavilion.

LAST WEEKEND RECAP VS. WAKE FOREST AND VIRGINIA TECH
  The Irish finished the weekend 2-0 as they took down Wake Forest in a five set thriller (17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 14-25, 15-13) and defeated the Hokies in four (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22). Despite trailing 11-5 in set five against Wake Forest, the Irish were able to rally back to take home the set five win and extend their winning streak.

• Paris Thompson led the weekend with 31 kills, tallying 15 kills against Wake Forest and 16 against the Hokies.

• Setter Phyona Schrader dished out 85 assists and tallied 44 digs on the weekend. 

• Avery Ross finished with 24 kills on the weekend followed by Lauren Tarnoff who finished with 21 kills and 10 blocks, with seven of those 10 blocks coming from the win over Wake Forest. Kaylyn Winkler also tallied 17 kills for the Irish along with eight blocks. 

• Winkler and Tarnoff capped off the Wake Forest win with a block from the two attackers to end set five and give the Irish their third consecutive win on Friday.
