250+ Engage in MLK National Day of Service

Fighting Irish student-athletes, coaches, and staff come together for day of service

Monday, January 16, 2023 Fighting Irish student-athletes, coaches, and staff joined together to honor the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. As the only federal holiday to be designated a National Day of Service, ND Athletics celebrated this day off as a day on in service to local community institutions and organizations in need.

250+ student-athletes, coaches, and staff representing 20 athletics programs, and spanning each administrative vertical, joined together across nine sites throughout South Bend. Locations served include: Alliance for Catholic Education partner St. Adalbert’s School and St. Casimir Catholic Church, Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph’s County, Career Academy South Bend, Hope Ministries, Success Academy South Bend, Transformation Ministries, and more.

Athletics’ National Day of Service was organized in conjunction with University Walk the Walk Week celebrations and in fulfilment of Together Irish commitments. Walk the Walk Week is a  series of University, department, and student-sponsored events designed to help us consider how we—both individually and collectively—can take an active role in making Notre Dame more welcoming and inclusive. In its 8th year, the 2023 Walk The Walk Week occurs through January 27th.
