Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey

On play in first game of the season…
“Well it was a good start for us. When I look down and see 25 assists and you see the group at the end of the game. When I think about our group what I think is how are they going to play us because we do have a lot of offensive weapons. They obviously really took away our perimeter and weren’t going to help much. We also got a bunch of transition and that’s something I didn’t think we did well in the exhibition but our big guys will run a lot more now because they all got rewarded by running.”

On unselfishness of the team…
“Well I told them at halftime that we had 14 assists. They are very conscious of that and very conscious that they led the nation last year. It’s something that I think is the one identifying factor when you think about our program right now.”

USC Upstate Coach Eddie Payne

On the play of Notre Dame…
“They have so many guys that can make shots. They have a great inside-outside presence. There are certain guys you can’t leave but then you leave (Luke) Harangody one-on-one in the post. I am very impressed with this team. They make you pay every time you make a mistake.”

On the play of Notre Dame Forward Luke Harangody
“I think our guys did a good job on him. He has got that quick release. We tried to make him score over top of us.”

On the play of USC Upstate…
“I thought we played well in the first half. I was disappointed that once the game got a little bit out of hand, we had guys who tried to make it up. We have six guys who are playing in the second game of their career so I should be conscious of that. We quit executing and it got a little ugly. These are games that we play and will learn from and get better.”
