2003-04 Men's Basketball Team Takes To The Court In Preparation For Barbados

Sept. 3, 2003

Notre Dame, Ind. – It may only be September, but the Notre Dame men’s basketball team is ready to take the court for its first practice of the 2003-04-basketball season. This year’s Irish squad will conduct its first practice on Thursday (Sept. 4) in “The Pit” of the Joyce Center.

The Irish will get an early jump on the season when they travel Barbados Oct. 18-25 for two exhibition contests as part of their tour. NCAA rules permit college athletic teams a trip outside of the United States every four years. While basketball practice does not officially begin until Oct. 18, Notre Dame is allowed 10 practices prior to leaving for Barbados.

Head Coach Mike Brey also has scheduled practices for Sept. 6 and 20, Oct. 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17. The Sat., Sept. 20 practice (prior to the Michigan State game) will be open to the public in the Joyce Center Arena at a time yet to be determined.

Sophomore forward Omari Peterkin, a native of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, will provide a weekly diary leading up Notre Dame’s caribbean visit as well as daily updates during the team’s trip. Irish fans can read those excerpts only on www.und.com.
