#2 Irish Set To Meet Central Michigan & Marquette

NOTRE DAME, Ind. —The second-ranked Irish return to action with a pair of contests this weekend (Feb. 19 & 21) against Central Michigan and Marquette. The Irish meet the Chippewas on Friday (Feb. 19) at 6 p.m. ET inside Loftus Sports Center for their second game of the 2021 campaign, which will be televised on ACC Network. Notre Dame then heads on the road for the first time to face Marquette on Sunday (Feb. 21) at noon ET/11 a.m. local time. Sunday’s game in Milwaukee will be streamed live at GoMarquette.com.

  • Notre Dame opened its season with a 19-5 victory over Vanderbilt last Saturday (Feb. 13).
  • Samantha Lynch matched her career-high with seven points on five goals and two assists while Kasey Choma also netted five goals.
  • Lynch’s efforts against Vandy earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors (Feb. 16).
  • Madison Ahern matched her career-high with five points, including a career-best four assists.
  • Notre Dame kept Vanderbilt off the board for the first 18:01 of play and the final 19:35 of play.
  • Bridget Deehan stopped 10 of 15 shots to earn the victory in goal and anchor the Irish defense.
  • Notre Dame remains at No. 2 in the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse and U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Polls.
  • A nations-best seven Irish were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans (Feb. 1), including Andie Aldave (First Team), Bridget Deehan (First Team), Madison Ahern (Second Team), Emma Schettig (Second Team), Kasey Choma (Third Team), Savannah Buchanan (HM) and Kathleen Roe (HM).
  • Aldave and Deehan were also named Preseason All-Americans by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine.
  • Deehan was also named the magazine’s Preseason Goaltender of the Year.
  • Andie Aldave, Savannah Buchanan, Bridget Deehan, Maddie Howe and Kathleen Roe were each named to the Preseason All-ACC Team (Feb. 9)

THE NOTRE DAME-CMU SERIES

  • The Irish and Central Michigan will be meeting for just the second time on Friday and for the second consecutive season.
  • Notre Dame earned a 24-4 victory in its first-ever game against Central Michigan last season on Feb. 16, 2020.
  • In that win, Andie Aldave collected a game-high six points (4G, 2A) while Maddie Howe added five points (4G, A).
  • Erin McBride (4G) and Madison Ahern (3G, A) each added four points to the Irish offensive effort, which saw 10 different players collect points in the victory.

THE NOTRE DAME-MARQUETTE SERIES

  • The Irish and Golden Eagles are meeting for the ninth time on Sunday with Notre Dame having won the first eight matchups between the two schools.
  • Notre Dame opened the 2020 campaign with an 18-3 victory over Marquette inside Loftus.
  • Maddie Howe led Notre Dame with four goals in that victory and Madison Ahern collected a game-high five points (3G, 2A) in what was her collegiate debut.
  • Marquette head coach Meredith Black is a 2004 University of Notre Dame graduate and women’s lacrosse alumna.
