NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Following two weeks of training after the season-opening Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, the No. 16 University of Notre Dame women’s rowing team gets back in action this weekend at the Longhorn Invitational.

The appearance in Austin, Texas is the first for the Irish women’s rowing program. Set in downtown Austin at the beautiful Lady Bird Lake, the regatta will offer Notre Dame a chance to compete against a pair of tough tests in No. 8 Texas and San Diego.

Facing off against ranked opponents is nothing new for the Irish rowing program under head coach Martin Stone. Two weeks ago in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Notre Dame faced off against three ranked teams in a 12-team field.

“We are excited to go to the Longhorn Invitational for some side-by-side racing,” said Stone. “We have never been there and it’s at a great venue in downtown Austin.

“We will get a chance to compete against two very strong programs in Texas and San Diego. Texas won the Big 12 last year and finished seventh at NCAAs. San Diego is very good in the WCC and gave us tough races last year at the Lake Natoma Invitational. USC was scheduled to be in Texas but they decided not to come six weeks ago. So we are a little disappointed that we aren’t getting an opportunity to race one of the better Pac 12 schools although we will see some Pac 12 schools later on in the season. But overall we are excited. We think it will be a great event this weekend.”
