#14 Irish Fall at #11 Duke and #1 UNC Over the Weekend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 14th ranked University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team was in action twice this past weekend, taking on both schools down the legendary Tobacco Road in North Carolina. The Irish opened the weekend at #14 Duke Friday night, falling 5-2 before falling to the top-ranked team in the nation North Carolina, 7-0 Sunday.

How It Happened – #14 Duke

The Fighting Irish opened the weekend in Durham at Ambler Tennis Stadium. Doubles started with the Blue Devils earning a 6-2 victory at No. 1, and a 6-3 win at No. 3 to earn the point.

Singles play saw Notre Dame take two matches. Bojana Pozder earned the team’s first point with a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles. Julia Andreach added the next point with a 6-2, 7-6 (6) win at No. 2.

How It Happened – #1 North Carolina

Sunday would come up all UNC as the Tar Heels defeated Notre Dame 7-0. With all six of the Notre Dame dropped all three doubles matches as UNC took the early 1-0 advantage. Singles play saw all six-ranked UNC athletes earn victories. Pozder sent her match at No. 5 into a tiebreaker set before falling to the 13th-ranked singles player in the country in Abbey Forbes.

The Irish are back on the road next week as they head to the hill of Virginia. First, Notre Dame will take on Virginia in Charlottesville, before traveling to Blacksburg for a matchup with. Virginia Tech at 10:30 a.m. on the 19th.
