NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame rowing team returns to Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis for the second consecutive year, once more serving as a co-host of the 2014 NCAA Championship regatta this weekend alongside the Indiana Sports Corporation. The Irish open NCAA racing in the second heat of the Division I first varsity eight on Friday at 9:20 a.m. (ET).

Notre Dame, ranked 10th in the most recent Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing Coaches Poll, will be represented in the first eight by coxswain Christina Dines, Teresa Rubinger, Hilary Shinnick, Anna Kottkamp, Ailish Sheehan, Erin Boxberger, Molly Bruggeman, Courtney Gaberino and Joanna Mulvey. The Irish boat will occupy lane two against Oklahoma, No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 Virginia and No. 16 Wisconsin.

Boxberger and Bruggeman were both named to the CRCA South all-region first team on May 27, to go along with the first team all-ACC accolades that the pair earned following Notre Dame’s runner-up effort at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on May 17 in Clemson, S.C. Dines, Mulvey and Sheehan were selected as second team CRCA South all-region competitors.

The Irish second varsity eight takes the water in the second lane against Oklahoma, Stanford, No. 5 Princeton and No. 18 Louisville on Friday at 10 a.m. Notre Dame’s lineup will feature coxswain Alex Techar, Sarah Kappers, Carlee Beckler, Katie Skorcz, Alexis Olson, Elizabeth Kelley, Rose Doerfler, Ellen Gleadow and Kiersten DeHaven.

Friday’s preliminary racing will conclude with the varsity four competition, where 11th-seeded Notre Dame matches up with Oklahoma, No. 1 Ohio State, Wisconsin, Louisville and Jacksonville at 10:50 on Friday. The Irish crew will consist of coxswain Mikaela Prego, Bailey Amenabar, Emily Horton, Stella Willoughby and Kelsey Sekanick.

Along with the five all-region selections that were announced earlier in the week, a total of 10 Notre Dame rowers were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes on May 27. Dines, Doerfler, Gaberino, Kappers, Kottkamp, Olson, Prego, Rubinger, Skorcz and Techar represented the Irish as 2014 scholar-athletes.

Notre Dame is making its seventh all-time appearance at the NCAA Championship, earning its third consecutive bid to the national championship regatta. The Irish earned 13th place at the 2013 NCAA Championship at Eagle Creek Park, on the strength of a third place finish in the varsity four petite final.

For the second straight season, 22 teams will be vying for the NCAA Division I title at Eagle Creek Park. In 2013, the field was increased from the 16-team regatta that had been in place.
