Notre Dame Earns No. 1 Seed in Chicago Region

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the 24th consecutive year, the University of Notre Dame women’s basketball team is back in the Big Dance. The NCAA selection committee placed the Fighting Irish as the top seed in the Chicago Region.
 
To reach the Windy City, the Irish will first play host to the First & Second Rounds inside Purcell Pavilion. Notre Dame kicks off the weekend with 16-seed Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. ET.
 
Eight-seed Central Michigan versus nine-seed Michigan State immediately follows at 1 p.m. ET. Both matchups will be televised on ESPN2. Monday’s second-round matchup will be announced at the conclusion of the first round.
 
The 2019 NCAA Tournament marks the ninth overall time Notre Dame has been a No. 1 seed and a nation’s best eighth year in a row. Notre Dame is 36-6 all-time as a top seed in the tournament and boasts the fifth-most overall tournament wins in the country with 62.
 
Lastly, eight Atlantic Coast Conference teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament, which ties the league record for the fourth time and second consecutive year.
