Bio

Margherita Guzzi Vincenti, born in Milan, Italy, embarked on her remarkable fencing journey at an early age.

Margherita introduction to fencing was at the renowned Sala di Schema Societa’ del Giardino in Milan, an establishment steeped in history since its founding in 1882. Margherita’s passion for fencing soon took her to Genoa, Italy, where she joined the prestigious Societa’ Cesare Pompilio. Her decision was driven by the club’s commitment to providing top-tier training in epee, a choice that would shape her future in the sport.

Margherita’s ascent in the fencing world was nothing short of extraordinary. From 2005 to 2009, she proudly represented the Italian Junior National Team, participating in an impressive 30 World Cups. Her dedication and skill resulted in many victories and top finishes.

In 2010, Margherita embarked on a new chapter in her life, relocating to the United States after being recruited by Penn State on a fencing scholarship. As a freshman, she won the NCAA Fencing Championships and finished in the top-3 the following 3 years. She dedicated herself not only to her fencing pursuits but also to her academic journey, ultimately graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Pre-Medicine.

Thanks to her outstanding fencing achievements, she was granted U.S. citizenship in 2019. Since then, she has been a vital member of the U.S. National Team, securing numerous victories in U.S. National tournaments and achieving top finishes in multiple World Cups. In 2022, she proudly represented the United States as a member of the U.S. Fencing World Team and won the 2022 Team Pan American Games. She is currently training for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Margherita’s fencing home is Ataba Fencing Club in Hartland, Wisconsin, where she trains under the guidance of Coach Abbas Fadel. Beyond her role as a fencer and leader, Margherita is also a recognized U.S. National referee, contributing her expertise to the sport she loves.

Alongside her distinguished fencing career, Margherita’s passion for medicine has inspired her pursuit of medical research. Her ultimate ambition is to become a cardiologist, combining her dedication to both sports and healthcare.

Since 2017, Margherita has proudly served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Notre Dame Fencing Team.
